The Bodoni font was designed by Giambattista Bodoni in 1798, the creator of over 140 roman fonts. Bodoni is a series of serif typefaces. It has a narrow underlying structure with flat unbracketed serifs, extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes with an overall geometric construction.

Bodoni admired the work of John Baskerville and since he's created this font there have been many other revivals of the Bodoni typeface e.g Bodoni Antiqua, Bodoni Old Face, Bodoni Classico, TS Bodoni and many more.

Bodoni is not an easy font to use, it speaks in polished tones. Interletter spacing had not yet been conquered when Bodoni designed this font so it is uesd primarily in advertising. The earlier versions of Bodoni are occasionally used for fine book printing.

Bodoni’s typefaces and typography were studied efforts meant to be seen as well as read. He wanted them to be appreciated as
works of art, rather than mere pieces of communication.
